Performing Ensembles
Cougar Marching Band
The Crockett Cougar Marching Band is open to all students by audition. The Cougar Band performs at all football games, and at various contests and functions during the fall semester.
Please see Charms Calendar for summer band schedule. During school, rehearsals begin with stretching at 7:30 a.m. and also 5:30-8:00 p.m. Tuesday at Burger. Saturday rehearsals may be scheduled prior to Saturday contests. Saturday rehearsals may be scheduled prior to Saturday contests.
Honors Wind Ensemble
The Wind Ensemble is the premier performing group of the Crockett band program. Membership is limited through a strict audition process, and is usually made up of accomplished upperclassmen. The Wind Ensemble performs several concerts each year, competes at UIL Concert and Sightreading Contest and at various other venues nationwide.
Symphonic Band
The Symphonic Band is an ensemble of accomplished musicians selected through a strict audition process. The symphonic Band performs several concerts each year, competes at UIL concert and sight-reading Contest and on the spring trip.
Instrument Techniques Class
The instrumental techniques class is for students who are working to improve fundamental music and performance skills in order to gain admission into one of the performing bands. Students in this class are eligible for membership in the marching band. Additionally, these students will perform several concerts during the year in conjunction with the Concert Band.
Jazz Ensemble
The Jazz Ensemble will meet during zero hour, 8:00 - 8:50 AM, daily in the spring term. Membership is by audition and influenced by instrumentation standards. Multiple jazz ensembles will be offered if instrumentation requirements are met. The Jazz Ensemble will perform at numerous concerts and contests.
Steel Drum Band
After marching season, the Steel Drum Band will meet during zero hour, 8:00 – 8:30 A.M., daily through the spring. The band features the unique steel drum, or Pan as they are commonly referred, was first developed as a musical instrument in Trinidad during the 1930's. The Steel Drum Band performs at various shows during the winter and spring.
