Policies and Guidelines

Attendance

  • Attendance at all rehearsals and performances of the Crockett Band is mandatory. Absences will be excused only in case of medical or family emergency and we require written notification from a parent when an absence occurs.
  • Please use common sense when a situation arises; we don't expect you to be there if you are truly ill, but please notify the band office as soon as possible concerning the reason for an absence.

Rehearsals

Proper footwear must be worn at rehearsals. Sneakers, athletic shoes or marching shoes are the only acceptable shoes at rehearsals.

  • Wear comfortable clothes, such as t-shirts and sweats.
  • Rehearsals will begin and end on time.
  • The staff makes a commitment to using your time as efficiently as possible by carefully planning and preparing for each rehearsal. To that end, we ask the same of band members.
  • You should arrive early enough to ensure that you can begin practice on time.
  • Talking during rehearsal must be limited to matters involving rehearsal and must not disrupt the efforts of the instructors.

During school, rehearsals begin with stretching at 7:30 a.m. and also 5:30-8:00 p.m. Tuesday at Burger. Saturday rehearsals may be scheduled prior to Saturday contests.

Uniform Guidelines

  • Uniform must look neat at all times.
  • Make sure the bottoms of the pants legs are hemmed and NOT dragging on the ground!! If you have problems with your pant legs, please see the director.
  • Jackets are always to be completely zipped and hooked – unless otherwise told.
  • No jewelry. Only wedding rings and very small earrings are acceptable.
  • Sunglasses may not be worn during any performance.
  • Options for short trips 1) Remove the coat and hat or 2) Wear the coat completely: snapped collar and zipped up all the way. The rule is: If you have the coat on, wear it as a uniform or take the coat completely off and carry it. One or the other – no middle ground – ever!

Instrument Insurance - It is advised that you carry your own insurance for school-owned instruments, as the student is responsible for loss, theft, or damage to any school instrument. If such loss, theft, or damage occurs to any school instrument beyond normal wear and tear, the student or student's parents shall be liable for replacement or repair of the instrument. Students will receive information pertaining to an AISD-approved insurance carrier at the beginning of the school year. It is recommended that you check your homeowner's policy or renter's policy to determine coverage for any instrument for which you are responsible.

Participation and Inspections

A performing ensemble is a cooperative, group activity. If any student is absent, it adversely effects the performance and success of the other students in the ensemble. An unexcused absence from any performance will result in a reduction of the student’s six-weeks grade by 25 points.

Inspections will be held before most football games. Each student is responsible for maintaining the uniform, music, and instrument.

Summer Band Camp

It is important that each band memberbring water to marching band rehearsals. Please ensure your student is properly hydrated and ready for the vigors of the hot days.

Remember to please bring your own water to all practices and games.

Drum Major Summer Camp - During June of each year, our drum major selectees are sent to Drum Major Camp to learn the basics of corps-style drum majoring from current and former drum majors in the state. A week-long camp is held at various locations around the state. The fee for this camp is paid for by the Crockett Band Parents Association.
