Scholarship Program
Each year the Crockett Band Parents Association, Inc. will provide scholarships for deserving graduating seniors. Scholarship awards will consist of a voucher for a certain dollar amount that may be redeemed upon submission of proper receipts for continuing education expenses. In order to qualify for a scholarship award, graduating seniors must have participated in both the marching band in the fall semester and the concert band or Winter Guard during the spring semester of their senior year. Each senior seeking an award must complete an application provided by the Crockett Band Parents Association, Inc.
- The Washington Bicentennial Band Scholarship.
This scholarship was set up in 1976 when the Crockett Band represented the State of Texas in the Bicentennial Parade in Washington, D.C. The Band solicited contributions from citizens of Austin and found that it had $10,000.00 left over after paying all trip expenses. These funds are currently invested in a money market fund. The Crockett Band Parents Association, Inc. Treasurer handles this account, and scholarships are awarded to graduating seniors from interest earned each year. Each spring, band students submit an application, and a band parent committee chooses the scholarship recipients.
- The Johnny Reeves Memorial Scholarship. Johnny Reeves was a baritone player in the band who was killed in the tragic Woodlawn Baptist Church bus accident. At the time of the accident, the Band was in the process of raising money for a spring trip, but after the bus accident, taking a trip was out of the question. The Band voted to place the $1,000.00 in an interest-bearing account and to award a scholarship each year from interest earned. The scholarship has traditionally been awarded to a Senior Band member who plans to major in music.
- The Briscoe Memorial Scholarship. This scholarship is in memory of Kevin and Scott Briscoe who were killed in a car accident in 1978. Although there are no records of the funding of the Briscoe Memorial Scholarship, the Band has traditionally awarded an annual scholarship in this name to a deserving Senior Band member. This scholarship recipient is the only recipient selected by the band students.
- Clint Karaback Memorial Scholarship. In memory of trombonist Clint Karaback, who died in 1998. At the time of his death, Clint had $1,890.00 in his student account for the Crockett Band's Europe 1998 concert tour. Mr. and Mrs. Karaback graciously donated these funds to the scholarship account. An additional $1,600.00 was raised at the Clint Karaback Memorial Scholarship Concert. This scholarship is awarded to the senior who best exemplifies a love of music and a commitment to band.
- The Jack Sperry Scholarship. This scholarship was established in the spring of 2006 and honors longtime Crockett Band Director Mr. Jack Sperry. This scholarship is awarded annually to the senior most qualified in meeting scholarship requirements established by the Crockett Band Parents Association, Inc. The scholarship is awarded to a senior Band member who plans to continue in a Band program.
